My name is Berthe, I started taking piano lessons at the age of four and performed for the first time at the age of 8 at the Assembly Hall of the American University of Beirut. After graduating from High School in 1978, I attended the Faculty of Music of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik/Lebanon, where I pursued musical studies toward a Ph. D. in Music education and an advanced piano diploma.
I am a very motivated instructor who loves sharing my love and passion for music. I graduated from Glenwood High School in 2004. I then went on to Western Illinois University where I studied jazz on trumpet. I also went to Lincoln Land Community College with a Jazz performance major on trumpet and piano. I taught choir at Lanphier High School during the main choir teacher's medical leave. I played at Walt Disney World in 2005 as a fill-in on trumpet. I have traveled across the country and internationally as well. I have opened for and performed in major national acts across the country. My teaching career started in early 2001, including private instruction in piano, trumpet, and voice.
There is nothing I like better than to teach and also to play the violin and the piano. It has been my pleasure to do this for 50 years and to have played in a number of orchestras. At Bob Jones University I received a B.S. degree in Elementary Music Education. In Dothan, Alabama I taught in the Dothan School of Music and also a private school. In a private school in Ft. Lauderdale, FL I taught K-6 elementary music classes and also private lessons. In Largo, Florida I taught at the School of Performing Arts. I am extemely qualified to teach with a warm and caring approach. One year I volunteered to teach violin in a YMCA string program to disadvantaged students. The highlight of my career was being part of a professional "Broadway quality" orchestra and putting on 19 performances in a row for a televised Christmas Extravaganza in Ft. Lauderdale.
A native of Florida, I recently graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa under the tutelage of Scott Kluksdahl, an internationally renowned cellist and pedagogue. My other primary cello teachers include Loran Stephenson (National Symphony Orchestra), Helga Winold (Indiana University) and John Kaboff (Arlington, VA). I have participated in masterclasses with David Requiro and the Baumer String Quartet, Noreen-Cassidy Polera, Rhonda Rider, Jan Müller-Szeraws, Joshua Gordon, Carol Ou, Rupert Thompson, Robert Jesselson, Ross Harbaugh, Rebecca Penneys and Norman Fischer. As a strong advocate of new music, I have actively participated in numerous student composer concerts that have presented new and viable works from USF's esteemed composition program. I have also participated in the Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival (2012 and 2013) and the annual Tennessee Cello Workshop (2009). I was the principal cellist of the 2009 National Philharmonic Summer String Institute under the direction of maestro Piotr Gajewski and I was recently the Assistant Principal of the University of South Florida Symphony Orchestra. Throughout my high school career, I taught and performed actively as a guitarist and pianist in many varying ensembles ranging from improvisatory ensembles to rock and roll groups. As a motivated instructor, I focus on building depth of experience and knowledge regarding music and all of its aspects in students of all ages. Furthermore, I proclaim the importance of the fact that musicians create and communicate directly through their presentation of musical works at any level and on any instrument.
I began my musical journey at a very young age. I would sit and play on my Grandmother’s organ at the age of 5 learning songs by ear. In grade school I was introduced to the theory of music playing violin and later in high school playing clarinet in the school band. I was accepted into the Music Program at The University of Tampa after receiving piano instruction from local musician Florence Tillman. At The University of Tampa I studied piano, vocals, and guitar. I received private piano instruction with Professor Linda Rodriguez and was graded before a jury where I received an A for my efforts. I also received private piano instruction with Professor Kenneth Hanks of Hillsborough Community College. I received private vocal instruction at the University of Tampa with Dr. Yvonne Rene Dechance, Dawne Wisner Eubanks of Hillsborough Community College, and Margaret Lampasi of SUNY Adirondack in Upstate New York. In 2010 I graduated SUNY Adirondack with an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts & Social Sciences with honors as an inductee of Phi Theta Kappa. Currently, I am studying for a Bachelor of Arts at SUNY Empire with concentrations in Performing Arts and Literature. I love to learn and I am eager to teach to share my knowledge, experience, and love for music in the community.

We suggest students purchase a piano or keyboard for their lessons, as they will need to practice every day in order to develop their skills on the instrument. We recommend a keyboard with weighted keys, as this will feel most similar to an actual piano. An actual piano will have 88 keys, but most keyboards start from 61 keys and go up from there. Common keyboard brands found at music stores are Yamaha, Casio, and Korg. Many keyboard sets will come with a case, stand, headphones, and may even offer recording features for recording your own playing.
Music lessons in your home offer a convenient option to learn music! Most of our students request in-home lessons for this reason. As long as you have a piano or keyboard in your home, then you should be all set to start your lessons! Children who have never played an instrument before may feel more comfortable studying in their own home, as it may be less intimidating than going somewhere else. In-home lessons also decrease the time and gas money spent traveling to a different location.
Our piano lessons take place in a one-on-one setting and are customized to the requirements of each individual student. To get started, beginners may cover aspects of piano playing such as posture, hand positions, fingering technique, scales, chords, and applying these things to simple songs. They will also start to develop their knowledge of music theory, reading chord charts and sheet music. As their dexterity, co-ordination and speed progresses, they can start broadening their musical horizons. They can learn new chords, playing and performance techniques and styles, such as legato, staccato, glissando, runs, and fills, as well as work on their sight reading and general theory (time signatures, modes, modulation, etc.). Advanced players often want to study a particular genre or composer, or work on certain aspects of their playing and repertoire. This may include improvisation, or exploring different genres or styles, such as Avant Garde, Jazz, or Classical piano.
Piano is a great first instrument for children who have never studied music before. The instructors in our network specialize in teaching younger children, and can develop an individual lesson plan for your child. The youngest age that we recommend starting piano lessons is age 4. The instructor will be able to teach your child to read music, beginning music theory and musicianship skills, and how to develop a love for playing the instrument.
Taking piano lessons as an adult is a great way to learn a new skill and have fun at the same time. The instructors in Musika's network can help you learn from the very basic level if you are a beginner, or if you are an advanced player they can help you refine your skills. Adult lessons generally focus on learning the technique of the instrument, including how to read music, chords, and learning repertoire.

My daughter really enjoys her lessons with Pavel. She is an absolute beginner and Pavel is right with her as she learns the basics. She is completely engaged and always looks forward to her lesson. Henry has been a great piano teacher since I started lessons about a month ago, and he is helping me realize a lifelong dream. He is patient, plays beautifully, is easy to learn from and a very nice person. I took lessons as a child for a year or so, but never followed up over the years. Giorgi has made learning cello even more fun. From the sympathetic, "It is hard" to the precise, "Be careful about the curve of the thumb" he has strengthened learning in every lesson, without being overwhelming. He started playing a little duet on only the 3rd lesson or so, which made me feel, even as a beginner, that I'm already starting to make (occasionally screachy) music. He has suggested a variety of drills and practice techniques which have also sped up the process a lot. And he has a good sense of humor and surprising amount of patience.

David is not only a great musician and educator but also a delightful human. We began using David six years ago as a piano teacher for my two boys. Since then my eldest moved on to acoustic and electric guitar and my youngest electric and stand up bass. Somewhere along the way I began to take guitar lessons also (I was David's most bearded student at age 48). David always came prepared to lead but also to follow, he often asked what we were listening to and taught us how to play it. His ability to listen to a piece of music and transcribe it always left me amazed, we have several notebooks full of songs we learned individually or played as a group. After a shoulder injury David continued to impress by teaching me music theory instead of our usual lesson. I could go on forever, David made a positive impact on my family and feel fortunate to have met him.

Our kids love Mr. Lynwood. Mr. Lynwood is very patient and skillful teaching our kids both music theory and guitar/piano. He keeps them engaged and motivated during their lessons and we are seeing -or rather hearing- fast improvement in the kids' dexterity playing their respective instruments. We would recommend this good natured instructor to anybody.

I have been playing the drums for about 5 years and I have to say that Alvaro is very patient. He has opened me up to new styles of music and I can now play a Songo groove! What I liked most was that he was flexible in what I wanted him to teach me and would also bring in new material specifically to what I wanted him to show me. Erin has been a wonderful voice/piano teacher for our 7 year old daughter. She is talented, patient, and has a wonderful demeanor. She has been consistent with her teaching in piano and voice. She keeps record of where the students leave off so that they know what to expect the following week. I would definitely recommend Erin to anyone looking for a skilled piano/voice teacher.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
