I work with a variety of learning methods including Hal Leonard, John Thompson, Bastien, Alfred, Hanon, Czerny and Faber.  I select methodology and solo repertoire to best improve my students technique while at the same time keeping their interest and enthusiasm. I play classical music every day and I like for my students to study a classical piece because it helps them develop technique rapidly. As a keyboard player, I emphasize the study of scales and arpeggios and playing them with both hands. As a soloist, I was a prizewinner of the Nova Vista Young Artist Concerto Competition and winner and soloist with the KAMSA Youth Orchestra and Texas Christian University Symphony Orchestra. I have appeared in recitals throughout Berlin, Germany and in master classes with Dorothy DeLay, Donald Weilerstein, Brian Lewis, Ruggiero Ricci, and the Tokyo String Quartet. I help the student to focus their mind on what they are doing in the moment in playing the piano piece. This is most important for a student to practice focusing their hand and eye coordination, helping the brain to "think on its feet," and etc. where in focusing this also helps the student to focus on their Math, English, and Science studies in school. For the intermediate and advanced student the same holds as to letting the student learn at their own pace and to focus as I teach them techniques to play more difficult music, and to instruct the student at this level in the knowledge of how to memorize the piece. Batuta supports underprivileged Colombian youth by providing them access to free music education. During my time in Colombia I also volunteered as a Digital Arts Instructor at a Creative Arts Center and wrote an album of music inspired by my new surroundings. I believe music, and other art forms, connect us to something far greater than ourselves.As an educator, I approach each and every student I teach holistically, and enable them to make these deep connections through the music.
