Piano Lessons in Merrill Park, WI

Instruments: Piano

During a typical lesson I will hear the pieces my student was practicing the week before, make corrections or suggestions and have them play the piece again. Then I will assign them new pieces and have them play through them making sure they understand what to do and explaining any new concepts and giving suggestions on how to practice. As the students get more advanced I will also have them play scales andexercises and have them work out of a theory book. Read More

I do insist that each student practice one to two hours a day based on what they are taught. This includes, but is not limited to finger exercises, drills, posture and any thing that will make playing better for them. I try to encourage them to have fun while learning, this keeps them more interested in continuing with their desire to learn. Read More

My methods depend on the student's age, what they may have already begun in lessons with another teacher, and I also take into consideration the assessment of their learning style-choosing a method that works best for their needs. Basically you could say that I have no 'one' method. I have as many methods as I have students because every single student deserves for me to take the time to get to know them and to find out what educational practices will fit best with their learning style and personality. I always figure out where a student is at, and prefer to grow off the student's strengths as opposed to harping on their weaknesses. I have been in lessons before where teachers couldn't get past the smallest details, and these ruined the experience for me, as well as greatly affected what I was able to accomplish in my lessons. I began teaching in 2000, and since then have taught saxophones, flute, clarinet, improvisation, chord theory, piano / keyboard, basic music understanding to young children in a classroom setting, and coached worship teams and group seminars to all ages. It is a great joy to see students excel and expand as they take what they have learned into their own lives! Without focus on achieving this, I have witnessed most of my school-aged students advance to lead positions in the ensembles they are involved with, as well as continuing with a passion in their gifts! I teach vocal students from ages 6-adult. We work on breathing techniques, music theory, interpretation, and style. I like students to sing their favorite styles. I also expose them to songs that I feel would be appropriate for their growth. We also work on performance and auditions! I like to incorporate a lot of music theory and note reading into my teaching as well. Everyone is at a different level so I cater lessons to fit the needs of each student. Read More
