During a typical lesson I will hear the pieces my student was practicing the week before, make corrections or suggestions and have them play the piece again. Then I will assign them new pieces and have them play through them making sure they understand what to do and explaining any new concepts and giving suggestions on how to practice. I graduated from Carroll University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Liberal Arts, and have performed as principal flute for an international music project between Carroll University, Marquette, UW Milwaukee, and multiple Italian conservatories all throughout Italy, Germany, and Austria. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.I would love to give my students opportunities to give recitals in public because that is a way to check themselves of what they actually learned from class and also that will gain their confidence and interests of playing piano in public. For my beginner students who are children I typically start out with either Hal Leonard or Fabre lesson books to learn all the very important foundational keys in music. As I notice they are grasping the concepts and able to apply them I then like to find outside resources such as sheet music, classical, pop to allow them to enjoy and discover what they love most. Jill has been teaching children and adults for 20 years. I studied voice and piano and performed at various venues. Now, I focus more on teaching piano and voice. We work on technique, performance, note reading, sight reading, and interpretation. We also work on music theory.
