I love working with any person that is interested in learning. I work as a substitute teacher during the day teaching various subjects. I have ran my own school and taught music as one of the subjects at the school. I am very patient and passionate with anyone that proves to me that they are really interested in learning. In the past, I have had the opportunity to play with l professional musicians while playing in the United States Navy Band.
I first got into music when I was in elementary school. My first instrument was the upright bass fiddler. This help me learn the notes on the bass clef. I later learned to play trumpet which was the instrument that used to audition to get into the Navy Band. I also played piano for college that I worked at called the College of Lake County in Greyslake, IL. I now play the electronic piano at the church that I attend, Parklawn Assembly of God.
For beginning students under the age of 10, I start with the beginning John Thompson book. Depending on the type of music the students want to play I will instruct them on more advance lessons that I learned from. Practically all of my lessons are taught from the John Thompson book.
I do insist that each student practice one to two hours a day based on what they are taught. This includes, but is not limited to finger exercises, drills, posture and any thing that will make playing better for them. I try to encourage them to have fun while learning, this keeps them more interested in continuing with their desire to learn.
