I am a versatile and engaging musician with 14 years of experience performing and composing in a wide variety of genres: Jazz, rock, hip-hop, folk, classical, electronic, electroacoustic, avant garde, ambient, soul, punk, etc. This is a resource that has proven to be invaluable in teaching students with a wide range of interest to help them develop both in technique and in finding their own voice on their instrument. Being a teacher is by far one of the most rewarding choices that I have ever made. Seeing a students growth and development is absolutely astounding. I believe that each student is very individualized, and no student learns exactly the same as another. As a teacher, I believe that I need to constantly be adaptable and adjustable to each student's needs. During the first lesson I have the student sing (if it is a vocal lesson) their favorite song so I can hear them. After that i use my keyboard and take the student through some excersizes to really home in on that range. I listen for qualities and we discuss the positives and what improvements are needed. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
