I teach with a combination of Lesson and Theory books, usually Alfred's Basic, and we will focus on healthy playing technique. For beginner students who are children, I teach solfege for learning Absolute Pitch, which is connected to playing Western music. Achieving aural skills by singing, and getting sight-reading ability is one of the most important skills in learning to play piano easily. I tend to use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements as well as other series' depending on the student's level and musical interest.
