For younger children, I typically start with the fundamentals such as distinguishing between the head voice and the chest voice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for said student. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in both repertoire and vocal goals, and guide my instruction according to their goals. I'm a dedicated musician, playing guitar and piano 20+ years. I began lessons on piano at 6 and guitar at 12, also studying saxophone a few years. I grew up in a musical family and learned some piano early on from my father who played jazz. I took formal lessons through high school and studied classical guitar at Keene State College. I have been teaching private lessons for about 2 years, both for a company and privately. These lessons include beginner piano, voice, and violin. In my music therapy internship I have also had the experience of teaching adaptive piano, guitar, and ukulele lessons.
