Generally layed back low pressure lessons, but I will push a student if they let me. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More

As a highschooler I was very motivated to help the young musicians of the Middle School. I would dedicate a period of my day to running sectionals and teaching students in the Middle and High School. Though I was never paid for this work, as I was just fine doing it for free, I learned much about effective and ineffective ways of communication in teaching. During college I would help the youth prep school jazz band by being a behavior role model, playing in the section, and running sectionals. Read More

In order to support students in discovering and sharing their unique artistic voices, I strive to provide a space in lessons where students feel safe to explore, discover, experiment, and make mistakes. The goal for all my students is to be able to perform with full conviction and belief in their interpretations through score study and analysis, technical mastery, and emotional engagement. Beyond learning about music and the technical aspects of playing the piano, the ultimate goal for my students is to learn more about themselves, about life, and to have the pure joy of experiencing life through music. For young students starting piano lessons for the first time, I recommend either Bastien or Faber's piano Adventure method books. My older students love Alfred's books. These method books, in my opinion, have motivating pieces and give the students a solid foundation in theory and scales. I also use supplementary materials such as Dozen a Day, Czerny, Kabalevskiy. For students of all ages, I stress that the ears are the most important part of playing or listening to music. Read More

For beginning and intermediate students, I like to assign short pieces from method books such as Student Instrumental Course and Rubank. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. In developing a complete musician, I want to offer support for my students' other musical activities, as well as provide them with resources that they might not have elsewhere. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days. When I was in college I had the opportunity to student teach students from Pre Kindergarten to 12th grade. I mainly have experience with teaching younger children general music. Even though, I have limited experience with private instruction I had the chance to help students with their auditions to NYSSMA. Yet my degree program has prepared me for private instruction, with a class on vocal pedagogy. Read More

My teaching style is all about steady, consistent progress. It is very valuable to dedicate even the smallest amount of time each day to practice. I like to provide my students a range of exercises to reinforce material that's already been learned, familiarize themselves with new concepts, and then a little bit extra if they feel inspired to branch out. I aim, also, to share my enthusiasm about music with my students. Read More
