I feel that I can develop a great rapport with students, and am able to relate to their musical interests no matter what their preferred style(s). Due to the extensive and varied experience I have gained, I am able to develop exercises and choose materials that are relevant to each individual student's needs and goals. My greatest reward is seeing my students gain confidence and the passion for making music that I have known throughout my life. Read More

My teaching style is straightforward and practical, always emphasizing the goals of each student specifically. The benefits of reading and understanding sheet music as it relates to your instrument far outweigh those of simple tablature used for guitar and banjo etc. However, in some cases it is practical to use non-traditional forms of instruction. A good teacher's goal is to help the student advance, even if it doesn't happen in a pre-conceptualized fashion. Read More

I have been teaching for the past 10 years in Singapore and the US. In Charleston, SC, I was faculty at the Charleston Academy of Music for almost 6 years. My students range from age 3 to adults, and have won local and state competitions. In 2010 I formed a piano duo, and have since been invited as guest faculty in the Chicago Duo Piano Festival and Charleston Music Teachers' Association. I have performed in Asia, Europe and in the United States and have met many internationally acclaimed pianists and pedagogues, and I bring with me the experiences I have amassed over the years. My lessons include a time to practice piano technique as well as time to learn new pieces. I usually recommend R. and N. Faber books for beginners. I also encourage performances and for those, I let students choose works (classical, romantic, contemporary, jazz, or pop) based on skill level and personal interest. Having a goal for a performance can really help to motivate learning and practicing at home.I also incorporate duets when appropriate. Read More

I have been teaching for over 15 years and I love watching students grow in their musical abilities. I get so excited when the passion comes out of them into their playing. I got my Bachelors in music performance on cello, but I started on piano and violin when I was six years old. I have performed all over Northeastern Ohio and it was a great experience being able to share the love of music with other people. Read More

I've been teaching since 2006 at Baldwin - Wallace College, where I became an Adjunct Lecturer in Piano by the recommendation of the piano pedagogy faculty in 2007. When in town, I've been teaching students primarily from ages 5-25, in traditional repertory and to help other older musicians hone specific skills. I've taught students who have played in recitals, church services; including students who composed music that appeared in the Cannes International Film Festival, and students who wished to only play privately. I pride myself in my strong technique which I credit to my background with the Cleveland Institute of Music, which is one of the biggest benefits that my students quickly take on. I specialize in teaching classical music, and I also teach basic jazz and pop improvisation, to all ages. Read More

I am a patient teacher and encourge students to work at their own pace. If we need to spend more time on a certain concept or technique than one lesson allows, we will. I want to make sure that they understand throroughly before moving on to the next concept. At the same time, I want my students to feel challenged in their lessons so that they will be willing to go home and put the work in during their practice time. Read More
