My instruction is tailored to the specific musical goals and needs of the individual student, however, a students progression is paced by the individual. A significant aspect of my teaching style is my understanding of the various ways in which people learn and the vast amount of tools I utilize to impart information. The balanced acknowledgement of a students strengths and weakness tends to encourage their desire to progress, while setting attainable goals can motivate that process to result continuously. For piano students ages 5-9, I generally use the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures series. For piano ages 10-12 I use the Older Beginner series. My teaching style is a something I consider to be a hybrid: I combine the academic knowledge I have gained since I started my first piano lesson at four years old, along with the real life experience I obtained as a full-time traveling musician. I take this unique style of teaching and apply it in a very engaging and stimulating learning environment. I like to apply techniques from both the Orff and Kodaly teaching philosophies with younger students. Read More

If, for example, you already know how to play the piano, but you want to be better at it, I will help you and teach you what ever I feel can help you become an even better pianist. Read More

Beginners - intermediate have a healthy helping of both theory ( notes, scales, chords), technique ( physical drills), and creativity! Meaning, songwriting, listening, learning favorite songs.. improvisation! This of course varies from student to student, but whatever they are physically and mentally able to handle at the time, is what we will embark on -- nothing challenging enough to keep anyone away from their chosen instrument -- it's supposed to be fun - 'PLAY"ing music! My background in classical piano gives me a strong foundation for successful piano education. I refer to the classic Russian method of piano technique and provide the student with confidence in sight reading as well as a strong understanding of music theory. My students have ranged from ages 5 to 65! I work at the student's pace, am generous with my time, provide a fun and relaxed learning atmosphere, and makes sure each person walks away from his or her lesson feeling inspired. Read More
