My teaching style combines different elements. I try to keep it fresh and work on music that the student enjoys. I will work on songs but also larger concepts including ear training, improvisation, reading, and chord knowledge/ theory. I don't try to force concepts on people, but introduce them if they are open/amenable to it. I believe that everyone coming to the guitar has different goals and are doing it for different reasons and so it seems ridiculous to have only one approach. Read More

I hope to inspire a love of music in others through my teaching, playing, and composing. In 2012 I graduated from Eastman School of Music with High Honors, and in 2015 I received a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from New York University, and in 2022 I received a PhD in Music Performance from NYU. I have performed in Italy, Canada, Costa Rica, and throughout the United States, and have taught various styles and instruments to students of all ages. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the Suzuki Method while combining it with the Essential Elements Method. As the student learns the fundamentals I gradually add scales and exercises to further develop the student's technique. After further progress, I begin to introduce solo repertoire and add other pieces. I'm fairly flexible on what pieces the student may play in the lessons, as long as the rudiments and classic repertoire are covered. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, while also gently pushing them to take their abilities to the next level when I see that they are ready to. In addition, acknowledging accomplishments help fuel students' desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More

Since moving to NYC, I have also started teaching at the New City School of Music in New City, NY. I find that teaching has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had while in music, and I often feel that I have learned as much from teaching as from my own study. I firmly believe that it is as important that students learn basic musicianship skills such as sight-singing and music theory as learning their instrument of choice, and I try to incorporate these elements, among others, in voice lessons. I've been teaching public school for 19 years, all but the first two spent in 9th grade. I've also had many years of experience as an adult church choir director. The huge majority of my singers along the way would probably tell you that I made them very comfortable. Tension is the singer's worst enemy. Tension is caused by fear, by uncertainty in one's ability, or by faulty technique. A great singer makes singing seem easy. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin
For beginning students who are children. I typically start with Suzuki Violin Book or Hal Leonard's Essential elements. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce some repertoire they can perform. For adults, I try to find out what music the students are interested in and as teaching basic skills, I will teach music what they would like to perform. Also I will guide my instruction to encourage their interest of playing violin so they can have fun with playing violin, not get stress about practicing violin. Read More
