These methods teach note reading skills, music theory, aural and ear training skills, sight reading, and transposition. If you are a transfer student and have worked with a previous instructor, I'm happy to use the method books you're familiar with. For intermediate and advanced players, the focus is on technique and piano repertoire. In my 2nd year of Juilliard I began coaching freshman student string quartets. Many of these students had very little experience with chamber music. We practiced and discussed healthy group rehearsal habits, the several technical points such as intonation and bowings that are imperative to unify when playing with others, and of course, the expression of the music. In 2013 I earned a Master of Music from New York University and have been playing in solo shows, ensembles, and recordings since. I've also maintained a growing teaching career by holding adjunct cello appointments at NYU and the Abrons Arts Center. Subsequently, I studied with Piero Odorici and attended jazz seminars at "Siena Jazz" and "Jazz Urbino". For beginner students, I like to use the Faber books or the Thompson method for piano. I also encourage students of all ages to share what they enjoy listening to and incorporate songs they enjoy as early as possible. As students progress I get into more in depth concepts in music theory and improvisation, to provide a foundation in the language of contemporary music.
