Instruments: Voice
I started teaching when I was 18 years old, I had a lot of experience as a musician and singer by then, so I thought it was going to be easyer than what it was, but of course it took me years to find my own method, it was a completely different and new world for me, but after the first months teaching I really started to loved it. At the very first time I just had two students, but then I started to work in small music schools, I started to direct chorus, Intensive courses for adults, and more. Read More
Instruments: Double Bass Music
I began teaching in college 6 years ago and have helped students successfully prepare for and win ensemble auditions at the college level. For the double bass, perhaps the most athletic instrument, I know it is imperative to focus on proper posture and technique to avoid injury. This bodily awareness (rooted in years of yoga practice) is a central part of my teaching philosophy. As a composer, I encourage my students to pursue their passions by creating works for the bass that draws on what we have been learning in the studio and practicing at home. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My main objective as a voice teacher is to provide information upon which a student can build a healthy, efficient, reliable technique that frees their voice and supports their artistry. Note that I didn't say, "upon which I can build" or even, "we can collaboratively build" because the ultimate goal is singer independence. In practice, this breaks down into five cornerstones that guide how I approach each lesson: Skill - First and foremost, singing well takes practice. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone
I use the musical methods that work and produce results for the indvidual - without overlooking the need to instill discipline and musical rudiments required for mastery. For brand new brass students, I begin with basics of embouchure formation, in a fun way... using a progression of "free buzzing", mouthpiece playing, ultimately leading to playing on the horn. This will take a few days to a week to establish. The result is a firm foundation and understanding that will last a lifetime. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
The methods used in my trumpet studio focus solely on the fundamentals of playing trumpet. For all ages, there is a focus on building breath support, dexterity, and range. For the intermediate and advanced players, there is a focus on transpositions, sight-reading, dexterity, and learning standard trumpet repertoire. All of my lessons are tailored around the student and adhere to the New York State Standards for Music. Methods and other books I use include but are not limited to: Clarke, Gekker, Bai Lin, Schlossberg, Getchell, Concone, and the Amsden's 68 Duets. Read More
Instruments: Voice
Teaching students of all ages is an activity that brings me a lot of joy! I have traveled to India to teach students there, as well as taught in the US. I am currently studying at NYU learning as well as teaching! I feel strongly about the fact that you never stop learning! One thing that is extremely important is to practice consistently. Practice does not make perfect; practice makes permanent. Read More
