For beginner students who are adults, I tend to begin with Alfreds Basic Adult All in One Course. It is a wonderful book that teaches beginning theory and piano concepts at the perfect pace for adult students. As we progress through the book together, I begin to give pieces such as Clementis Sonatina in C (first movement). We start at a slower tempo and work each hand individually until the student is comfortable to try both hands. Read More

Ever since I was a child I had wanted to be a teacher. When I got to Central Piedmont Community College I focused on music education because I knew I wanted to teach music theory in college. After transferring to Wingate University I began studying choral music education because I was fascinated byhow the voice works and blends with other voices in a choir situation. I have had the opportunity to study rock bass, jazz bass, classical guitar, piano, and even private voice lessons from private lessons all the way up through college level lessons and these lessons have given me such a drive and passion for not only music, but music education. I look at each student individually to assess their potential and goals before setting a book or particular study plan. Once the student has begun basic technique exercises, I assign book levels and vocal repertoire that fits their interests as well as matching what I feel the student needs to be working on. I approach children and adults with the same methods: 1)Find out what the student's goals are. 2)Assign repertoire/technique exercises. that will help them reach those goals while allowing me to teach them the skills they need to attain those goals Read More

I like to set attainable, yet challenging goals for each student. Ensuring that each student progresses at his or her own pace will encourage the development of a love for music. I try to acknoweldge a student's progress in order to inspire a desire to keep learning. Each lesson includes some technical exercises, a theory component, and other components pertinent to the specific instrument. For example, piano and organ students will learn scales and arpeggios, voice students will learn various breathing techniques. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's importat that each student progresses at his/her own pace. I encorage them by setting realistic goals and by reinforcing the improtance of individual study practice. By trying out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I mainly use Alfred and Hal Leonard books for teaching. Read More

PIANO, FLUTE, SAXOPHONE and VOICE I have been active in the music industry for over 40 years as a teacher and performer, along with holding positions as musical director, arranger, accompanist, and in show production. Growing up near New York City gave me a wealth of opportunities for musical studies and experiences. I first studied with concert pianist Frank Giampolo for many years in Bridgeport, CT. He recognized my love of jazz and incorporated it, along with a classical repertoire, theory, harmony and arranging into my private studies. Read More

As being a student of some great singers, teachers and Maestros of Bel canto style of singing here and in Italy, I am a strong believer and practitioner of that school. Just like any other instrument, ours is one and the same, no matter what style we choose to perform. The only difference is- we, as singers, must build our instrument as well as learn how to use it at the same time. if built wrong, it wont work, or last. Read More
