I am a passionate and motivated musician and music teacher and I absolutely adore sharing my love of music with my students! I graduated from Point Park University with my BA in Musical Theatre in 2017, and joined the national tour of "Peter & Wendy" with Missoula Children's Theatre for a few months before returning to my hometown in California to teach. I recently made the leap to New York City and have the opportunity to teach here, a job that I am so privileged to have! Read More

Music teaching methods formed many centuries ago and modern teachers use them. How to transmit my knowledge's to my students is my method. It can to show them what they need to do and we decide with way is the best for them. For beginning students, I try to figure out what if any familiarity with the instrument or connected genres the student already has and plan to orient lessons around that. If they're absolute beginners with no specific interests yet, as is often the case with children, I focus on teaching fundamentals of the instrument's technique, music theory relevant to reading sheet music and understanding scales, keys, and time signatures. If it seems like it would help I'd move on to the Suzuki method or at least to simple songs and etudes. Read More

I began studying classical and jazz piano at the age of 5 in the Chicago area with Bob Ravenscroft(currently resides in Phoenix and very influencial in the Phoenix Jazz Scene) at Alan Swain Music Studios. I was fortunate to have played in the New Trier West Jazz ensemble in high School. Our band competed in the Montreaux Jazz Festival sweeping 9 of the 12 soloist awards. At 16 I began playing professionally in the Chicago Area in combos, trios and backing up vocalists. I was very forutnate to have studied with three amazing teachers, Herman Shapiro in Chicago(a professor at DePaul University and a student of Rudolph Ganz(The Director of the Chicago Musical College, Carl Mosbacher-a professor at New York University and the Mannes School of Music and Julian White in the Bay Area who was a student of Egon Petri. I typically use Piano Adventures books. I start with teaching what each note on the Piano is, then how each note corresponds to what you see on paper, then I teach intervals, then scales, then chords, then harmonic structure, etc. All the while progressing through more and more fun and tricky pieces in the books. Eventually, I introduce solo pieces for each individual depending on what they want to learn/what they're interested in. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons almost 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio, several Piano Academies, and students' homes. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

It's important to me to cater my teaching style to each student. Not all students learn the same way so its not a one size fits all. Some of my students need more pressure and more practice and want to have more material and others like a more laid back approach. I will spend the first 1-3 lessons to figuring out what your preferred learning method is, what the problem areas are, and what kind of books, tools, and games I should prepare for the rest of our classes.
