I have been teaching lessons one on one for 13 years in voice, piano, and flute. I have also been an elementary school music teacher for the last 4 years. In my experience, I have worked with students from age 3 to age 70 with a variety of skill levels and disabilities. Over the years I developed a strategy to help each individual student reach their music goals and foster a love for music. Read More

I have been teaching beginner students and children privately for the last 5 years. I have been freelancing as an organist, pianist, chorister and cantor all over Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts for the last 7 years. I particularly specialize in early music - from the Middle Ages through about 1780. I have particular love of early keyboards - clavichords and harpsichords, specifically. My vocal experience has helped and extensively continues to help my keyboard-playing AND keyboard-teaching. Read More

For beginning students I typically start by listening to them perform a sound that they feel shows their ability and work with them to determine a goal to further their progress. For singers, we begin by building a set of vocal warmups and exercises. For instrumentalists, we will being with an exercise book that is suited to their level. Overall, I try to maintain a balance of repertoire for my students that both challenges the expands their flexibility as well as inspires them to build their skills. Read More

Always start with the basics to build upon a strong foundation. For beginners, I typically recommend the Rubank series (now part of the Hal Leonard Corporation), likely the Rubank Elementary Method, or E. Wagner Foundation to Flute Playing, depending upon what level they've already achieved. I teach both to the book and to the student's needs preferences; thus, we may progress on a page-by-page basis, covering approximately 1 book page per week with a weekly 45-minute lesson to review and then progress, or focus on areas the student needs to strengthen, such as practicing long-tones to improve tone strength and quality and using the book lessens only as a supplement. Instruments: Voice, Violin, Electric Violin, Music
I strive to make my lessons fun! Learning to do something you love should be fun. I enjoy teaching students especially when they have a strong passion for what they are doing. I encourage them to practice daily, if nothing else. I always say, even if it's only 10 minutes a day, that's better than 30 minutes only one day of the week! Even if you are very talented, you still must practice to get better. Read More
