There are many series of books now available with varied styles of music from beginning to intermediate levels such as those by Martha Mier, Robert Vandall and Christopher. Very young students and sometimes even those who are older have difficulty understanding musical notation and it is useful to teach them by rote while also improving reading skills. Read More

I started playing the guitar at the age of 17, after seeing a few live concerts in New Haven (Blues Traveler, Allman Brothers Band, and Phish). I remember sitting and watching in amazement and was inspired to go out, purchase a guitar and attempt to learn some of this music. I will always praise them when they make improvements, no matter how small, but I will still make sure they know what it is they have to work on without reprimanding them.
