I began assisting teachers during high school for extra credit. It later became my job during Full Sail. I worked extensively with grades K-5 on reading, writing and math skills enrichment. For beginners, texts from Hal Leonard, Jamey Aebersold and Alfred's piano course are great examples to guide students through, but ultimately the specific text doesn't matter as long as I can teach the fundamentals necessary to be performance ready. There are typically three books that I like to start children off with which include Piano Party, Music for Little Mozart’s, and My First Piano Adventure which are designed for children ages 4-11 years old. These books help children to understand the basics of rhythm, music theory, and activities associated with the two. I generally like to begin my teenage to adult students with the All in One Adult Course series which consists of three levels from easy to beginner intermediate and also combines a mixture of classical and modern music. I started playing the cello in 5th grade after attending a Middle School showcase where they showed off all their clubs to rising 6th grade students. I ran away from my mother after seeing the Cellist play and went to talk to him. She found me an hour later in the Orchestra room playing with the instrument. For beginning students, I start with getting comfortable holding the drum sticks and understanding how to properly strike the drumhead. Students will be introduced to basic notes and rhythms that will help them along the way. Beginning students start on drum pads and progressively move towards actual drums.
