This opportunity opened doors for me to teach music theory and private saxophone and flute lessons in a community based project that was geared towards using music for social development and change in the inner city youth. Once I went to college I joined the Gospel Chorale at Virginia State University where I helped guide the alto section for a month long European Christmas tour. There are moments that I look back and think how amazing is that students start from scratch and now they are able to create music on their favorite musical instrument. Technical development is always an essential element in my teaching but the ultimate goal is to help the students to feel and express music to the very extent their abilities.
