For beginners I start teaching basic chords and chord patterns to generate interest for the student. Then I use the Hal Leonard Guitar method to teach the fundamentals of reading music, music theory, etc. Then as the student grasps these simple tools I teach songs to reinforce how chord patterns work and finally move to the type of music the student is interested in. My teaching style is simple and basic. I encourage them to bring water and recording devices. I remind them to keep a positive attitude before we start. We always begin with breathing exercises, scale exercises, warm ups and resonance strengthen and vocal agility. I encourage them to understand how important it is to use your diaphragm to transition in the head voice for great tones and control. I teach the students how to use the resonance to increase tone and volume and use the head voice for less tone and volume. Read More

Prior to that, I finished programs in Europe as a guitar player in 1991. I moved to the United States in 1994. Once I went to college I joined the Gospel Chorale at Virginia State University where I helped guide the alto section for a month long European Christmas tour.
