Once that is accomplished, together we develop a plan that fits the needs and goals of that student. For beginning students who are children, I typically assign musical theater pieces that will develop their skill and technique but not be too daunting for early singers. My teaching experience began in spring 2008 at a local church where taught piano drums classes as a music instructor to students ranging from ages 5-18. Throughout college I was a piano and voice instructor at the Boys and Girls Club Music Clubhouse in Boston MA where I continued teach students ranging from ages 10-18.For the past three years I have continued to provide private instruction and tutoring for students of all ages.I find that my students have a much more pleasurable learning experience, when they are able to apply what they learn in ways that are meaningful to their desire and aspirations.I've always encouraged my students to uphold a positive work ethic and mindset when embarking on their musical journey. I start my younger students with Alfred's Basic Piano Library Prep Course For The Young Beginner. This series incorporates basic music theory in each lesson which is imperative for success on the piano. The lessons use graphics, language and examples that children can easily grasp, and are lots of fun to read and play. As their skills improve, I play an accompaniment for encouragement and fun. My teaching style ranges from student to student. For example I love to see my students develop whether they're coming to me as a beginner, basic, intermediate, or advanced student. If I have a gospel vocal student, I work with them on rifts and runs. If I have a classical piano student I work with them on fingering techniques.
