I have taught at almost every job that I have held professionally. I served as the music program director for a state correcional facility for 7 years with music education and performance being a primary focus. I started a music program at my primary job with a focus on learning how to practice and play each instrument fully and properly which doesn't have to involve a lot of time! I played in a rock band for 10 years and I have experience performing as a solo artist all over the local Philadelphia area! I don't have a single life experience that doesn't have a musical memory or series of songs attached to it! Billy Joel is my favorite musician. Boston and Chicago are among my favorite groups!

“Art Exists for the human species. I think that all of the people who love art, those who teach art, and all of you should burn with the obligation to save the world”    -Shinichi Suzuki I believe in encouraging my students and teaching one step at a time, which they can succeed and become confident musicians. I will also encourage them to listen to recordings of famous artists and make listening and practicing a part of their day.  For beginning flutists, I actually will teach them to spit (with aim) one grain of rice before they use their head joint for the first time. It is pretty funny but works like a gem. Toshio Takahashi came up with this way to have a concrete way to teach begiiners embouchure and sound production. When the student practices with the rice, they produce a powerful"toot" the first time the headjoint reaches their lips! I like to use the Suzuki materials for flute and also mix it up with favorite duet books and classic repetoire. I always encourage my students to find pieces that are their favorites that they would like to play, an extra motivation.   For piano, we will work on the basics with fingering. Start with playing melodies using the right and left hands and then introducing the bass line and chords.  I have a number of method books which I make use of and visual aids for the keyboard and the staff.

I began teaching cello lessons sophomore year in high school and am excited to continue teaching in college. I like to focus not only on the technical aspects of cello playing, but endeavor to make the lessons enjoyable, especially for the younger students. I've had the pleasure of having many students with a wide range of skill levels, social skills, and personality, and have been successful at tailoring my lessons and teaching style to their needs. I find it easy to connect with my students because I went through the same things not too long ago!

I like to get to know my students well so I know how to keep the lessons exciting and enjoyable. Everybody learns at a different pace and that is good! Each success is worth celebrating and the way to get there is by setting realistic goals.

I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have over 25 years of professional performance experience playing many varied styles. I furthered my music education at The Collective School of Music in New York City. I studied with some of the world's top drum and percussion instructors. My music experience has given me the opportunity to perform on cruise ships, club dates, festivals, private corporate events, and share the stage with world-class performers. I bring a wealth of real world playing experience, and I offer students my personal insight on the role of the working drummer.
