My primary instrument for the past 16+ years is trumpet; I also regularly perform on assorted brass, electric bass, and vocals. One of my main goals as a teacher is to get to know my student, how they best learn, and what it is they love about music. My own love for music and particular bands/genres is what gave me the drive to keep practicing, and I bring this same approach to each of my lessons. Nothing makes me more happy than to see one of my students getting excited about something they are playing--and because of this, I structure my lessons to maximize the aspects of music each student enjoys, while making sure to incorporate fundamental aspects of technique and music theory regardless of the particular music we are studying. I am a fairly new teacher but since completing my degree in May of 2015 I have already began to build a private studio as well as teach at a few local music schools. I believe that in order to truly understand an instrument, practice must take place nearly everyday. In lessons, I teach students how to practice by creating short goals that add up to long-term progress. For younger students, I find it helpful to treat these goals as games in order to make practicing feel fun as opposed to feeling like work. Read More
