I vary my methods according to student level, age, and practice habits.  For example, for the advanced high school student I often mold my teachings around college audition requirements and all-state, regional band auditions.   Otherwise, particularly for younger styudents, I am not very performance oriented.  I think it is more important to learn to "play" at music rather than plan and prepare for multiple recitals.

My teaching style is the studen'ts learning style. Whatever the student's learning approach may be - visual, aural, combination - I will work my approach to suit their needs. It is important that I find what the student likes so as to excite their learning. If the student wants to learn the Beatles discography front to back, or if they are desperate to learn Bottessini's Second Bass Concerto, then I will tailor my lesson plans to suit their goals.

I have taught one-on-one lessons for guitar, voice, piano, and trumpet for multiple years. My lessons are student-driven so that the learner can begin to critically think about and perform music on their own without the constant "need" for a teacher. I have taught a wide-range of learners of different ages and abilities. With the guidance from me, learners feel confident in their ability to successfully perform.

For young beginners, I assess the best approach - be it a particular method book or writing out my own studies geared toward the individual.  From the first lesson, proper bow technique is emphasized, helping the student get a pleasing sound in the first lesson.  For older students (teens and up), I teach to their goals and interests, welcoming and encouraging their input.  Communication is vital.  I also give listening assignments to help introduce students to varied repertoire - orchestral, chamber, and even vocal.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
