I am currently teaching mostly school age children, adolescents and adults. As a music therapist I have used guitar lessons as a therapeutic intervention to improve cognitive functioning in older adults. As students become more proficient in music reading and theory understanding, we develop an understanding of what the student would prefer to learn in regards to genre and focus on that, and the technical aspects of playing that lead to proficiency in that genre and style.
