For beginning students, I will teach them the essential elements of music theory/composition, finger exercises for dexterity, chords, scales, arpeggios, basic techniques, and begin working on learning songs they enjoy. After the student has progressed and has a grasp on fundamentals, I will begin to introduce appropriate improvisation skills, encourage them to find a band and begin working with the student on song writing. In the first lesson I usually give a set of ways to practicing that I believe will help each student succeed.
