I have been teaching for 30 years. The exciting thing is that private music lessons provides an opportunity to get to know students on an individual level. This means that each lesson is unique, and each student has lessons tailored to them. Getting to know what makes a student tick or understand is a highlight of my day! They often laugh at me because I have to ask what they are doing, and that I don't know off the top of my head because there are so many different things my students are doing. Read More

Upon a student's evaluation every lesson with any student should form it's own branch or life of it's own. Music is a passionate expression. I help students understand their instruments. Self expression, individualism, and self composition are traits I sought as a student and musician. My joy as a teacher, instructor and mentor is seeing the excitement someone achieves when they finally feel the "got it" or are starting to connect the dots. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons. I have been consistently teaching piano students in my home studio for the last 5 years. I use practice incentives to encourage regular practice as it helps students progress. My studio hosts a yearly recital where students can showcase their talent for family and friends. I incorporate music theory and history into each leason as well as composition. Read More

I'm a 2018 graduate of Temple University's Boyer College of Music, where I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies: Saxophone Performance. I play the Saxophone, Clarinet, and Piano, and I'm glad to be teaching students all of these instruments. At Temple, I studied under saxophonists Dick Oatts and Ben Schachter. I lead my own Jazz Quartet, and I've performed with groups including the Philadelphia Funk Authority, Temple Avenue Quintet, Tony Gairo's Crosscurrent Big Band, and the Work In Progress Jazz Orchestra. I certainly have adopted the teaching styles of my previous and current instructors, each bringing a unique approach to teaching an instrument. Patience and understand is crucial with any students, and there needs to be a lot of fun and excitement within a lesson, otherwise, what is the point? Now, fun and excitement must also be met with serious practice time and great concentration during a lesson. My objective is to create a comfortable environment fertile for learning, while at the same time having my students know there are skills to refine and concepts to solidify. Read More

I desire to instill the love of music in my students, teaching them to both enjoying and explore the world of sound. I obtained my Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Ball State University. I began taking piano lessons at the age of 6, and began teaching piano at the age of 18. I have had experiences playing for churches, and other instrumentalists. Also, I have been the performance accompanist for the concert choir at Ball State University. Read More

For adults, I would continue using these books but at a higher level with supplemental material on the side, which may include solo repertoire appropriate for them and Hanon's Virtuoso Pianist exercises (a few, not all). For voice students, I try to find out what it is they are interested in singing; I am comfortable with all genres but it should be noted that I am classically trained and can work more easily and comfortably for those wanting to sing classical music, musical theater, and church related music. A student must enjoy what they are working on in order to progress. Read More
