Depending on the level of the student, I will work with what they already have and expand based on the genres they want to learn. If the students' main goal is to shred like Hendrix, then I would start with the basics of blues. I'd explain the blues through terms of the major scale and western music theory, which makes it accessible to students would otherwise have no concept of the genre. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

For children and adults alike, I teach from the Ed Friedland Bass Method Book 1. It was actually the book that I started out on and Friedland is a well done studio and live bassist. He is just as amazing on bass guitar as he is on double bass. Once the student has progressed from that book then I move on to sight seeing with the student. After this then I move on to transribing basslines and meldodic lines. Read More

Growing up in Memphis, I began playing the piano at age 6. After moving to bass guitar a few years later, I finally picked up my brother's acoustic guitar and never looked back. At Vanderbilt University, I studied music and English and began gigging professionally in Nashville while still finishing my degree. I've worked as a singer/songwriter, touring artist and session musician in both Nashville and New York City. I'm proud to call Memphis home again when I'm not on tour. Read More
