Music is my heart felt passion, and I thoroughly enjoy the oppotunities of sharing my musical knowledge and experiences with my students. I am a degreed music teacher, who travels to teach in Raleigh and surrounding areas including Knightdale, Wendel, Garner and Clayton. I first began teaching guitar and piano during my music studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. At the university and after receiving my degree in music education, I have taught and performed in various musical settings and venues which has included the genres of classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk and country. Instruments: Piano
My teaching method begins with fundamentals. First, I teach about the piano itself. Second, I teach the notes. Third, I teach tones and steps. Fourth, I teach about major and minor scales. After I lay that foundation for the student I continue with theory and note identification. The student is ready to take off from there. I usually at this point let them select a song to play as well as I assign music. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
I have been giving music lessons for over twelve years. I have taught many churches, pop, and R&B musicians music theory and applied lessons. I have taught in the public, charter, and private school systems for over a decade. I am a highly skilled classical and jazz musician. Classical and Jazz music is what I emphasize in the public school system, but I have lots of experience in beach band, gospel, funk, and much more. Read More

In light of this, I will provide additional practice materials that are specific to the instrument each student plays or sings. For more advanced students, virtually all material will come from me, with the exception of students who request help with particularly difficult passages in their other repertoire. Regardless of experience, I believe all students should have a solid foundation of fundamental technique and music theory, and the materials I provide will aim to develope those skills. Read More
Instruments: Violin
I also want my students to enjoy the violin and look forward to their lessons each week as much as I do. If I ever sense that the student is becoming frustrated or isn’t practicing, I consider it my responsibility to get them back on track. Whether it be through extra encouragement, learning their favorite song, making a violin exercise into a game, or just changing up the routine a little, I do whatever I can to make them excited about the violin again. My choices in books and other resources for the student are based primarily on the students' individual goals, needs, and interests. Generally, I approach the subject matter with firm but relaxed expectations, giving the students freedom but also requiring them to pursue a specified goal. This may include allowing the student to take a break from a challenging piece if necessary, to let their mind calm down and refocus while they practice a different piece with different requirements. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. The first lesson i assess the student's ability - whether they can play, read music, and what kind of music they like. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their level. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
