Hello! I'm Charley, a professional musician, songwriter and educator currently based in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I studied electric bass at Berklee College of Music and have spent the last 15 years touring the world with various groups and working as a studio musician. I am a bassist by trade, but am fluent with guitars, piano, saxophones, auxiliary percussion and a wide range of analogue and digital synthesizers. I was born in New Bedford, MA to a musical family. I began piano study at age six and eventually decided to seek a degree in music, with an emphasis in piano performance. My love for the instrument is as a teacher, and it is that love for teaching that brought me to be a classroom teacher of general music for ten years. I believe that there is no "cookie-cutter" way to teach music. It is a very creative art-form which calls for room for creativity. My teaching experience dates back to the early 2000s, I began teaching private lessons part time. In 2009, I began teaching for a local performing arts school full-time. Among the accomplishments of my prior students, I have 3 who have graduated and attended Berkeley School of Music in Boston, 1 graduated from New York Film Academy and is working off Broadway, 1 who graduated from Pace University then went on to perform on Broadway and now is performing along side Rod Stewart, I have 2 who are now teaching music, and a number of others who are in college, have graduated, or are recording, writing and/or performing nationally and internationally. For entry level percussionists, I start on a practice pad with the basic drum rudiments (rolls, paradiddles, flams, etc.). After learning these rudiments, I will help the student identify these techniques in their favorite songs, which we will then learn to play together. After successfully performing songs in several styles, I will task the student with creating their own groove, which we can then turn into a full song. For intermediate drummers, I will have them showcase their skill level to appropriately develop a curriculum that will keep them challenged, engaged, and progressing in their musical journey.
