Overview:

Hello! I'm Charley, a professional musician, songwriter and educator currently based in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I studied electric bass at Berklee College of Music and have spent the last 15 years touring the world with various groups and working as a studio musician. I am a bassist by trade, but am fluent with guitars, piano, saxophones, auxiliary percussion and a wide range of analogue and digital synthesizers. I have collaborated with musicians who play for a wide range of artists, including Alabama Shakes, Derek Trucks, Clairo, Cage The Elephant, and many more.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching in 2010 as a private lesson instructor. In 2016, I began working for a teaching school in New York City. I'm now based in Northeastern Pennsylvania and looking to cultivate a community of musicians through a shared love of the craft. I have taught all ages of students, but find that I connect more thoroughly with students age 10 and up. I encourage my students to dig deep in their musical interests to find a sense of identity and place within the craft. Don't know what your favorite album is? I'll not only guide you to it, but we'll learn it together too!

METHODS USED

My philosophy is a student-first philosophy. I like to cultivate a curriculum around what my student is interested in learning about, whether that be music theory, improvisation, crafting chord progressions and solos, or learning specific songs. I come from a pop/jazz background, and love to work with students on learning songs they love—it keeps the lessons both engaging and educational. Students who are interested in pursuing music in some capacity, or those who wish to improve their chops: I am the teacher for you!

LESSON STYLE

I work closely with my students on crafting a lesson plan that best suits their interests. I've never been a homework guy; instead, I like to inspire my students by following their desired goals. Want to learn how to play like Metallica? Let's do it. Want to write songs like Taylor Swift? I'm game. Want to play bass like Flea? That's a challenge I'm up for. I like to consider myself as not only a teacher, but also as a bandmate—your goals are also mine, and we're working together to help you achieve them.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
