I started playing violin at the age of nine through my elementary schools string program. In addition to performing with the Discovery Middle School and Timber Creek High School orchestras, I participated every year in the all-county and all-state orchestras and served as associate concertmaster of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. For me is very important to know what are the students ambitions are from the beggnining; weither they are taking lessons to play flute just for fun or if they have higher aspirations. From there I can make a proper study plan for them as an induvidual, which is paramount in helping achieve the students expectations. For beginning trombone students, I typically work with the Rubank Elementary Method (old, but it works well), the Emory Remington Warm-Up Studies, and various material that I compose to help a student overcome their weaknesses. Scales make up a major part of any student's learning, and once a student masters the basics of the trombone, I move on to appropriate solo repertoire based on the student's progress and interests. For piano I prefer Faber Piano Adventures and have different books I would recommend starting with depending on the students age and experience. For guitar and ukulele I prefer using the Hal Leonard method books. I often supplement these method books with outside sources and pieces as is appropriate for the student. For singing students, I have a wide variety of books and resources depending on the musical style. I come from a classical voice background, so when students are middle school age and older (sometimes earlier) we begin learning Italian Art songs in addition to musical theater pieces and English folk songs.
