My lesson plans are devised around each student's individual goals. Do you have a favorite musician that you want to sound like? Is there an ensemble that you are dying to play in? Through a combination of effective methods and specific structuring to your needs, I can help you achieve those goals! For double bass, I find F. Simandl's "New Method for the Double Bass" and "30 Etudes for the String Bass" to be extremely useful. Read More

As an educator, I believe it is important to continue school music instruction into private flute lessons. I like to communicate with a child's school music teacher in the beginning of flute lessons, so that I can keep music terminology consistent for students, as well as reinforce concepts they're already learning (while expanding musically of course!). I like to have students keep a lesson packet where progress is documented, along with a journal--I find that reflecting for five minutes after a practice session (things that went well, things you need help on, questions), are important tools when striving for success. When it comes to teaching music, the student is the first priority. If the student is interested in playing rock music, we will focus on that. If they want to focus on the music they play in school band, we will focus on orchestral and symphonic percussion. Every student is different, and it is a teachers job to tailor the lessons towards a students natural learning style. I make sure to acknowledge my student's accomplishments, give extra attention to areas they need to work on, and generally make sure that they are always learning and having fun. Read More
