I expect my students to set aside some time to practice their pieces with regularity and focus. Having a goal makes the daily practice more meaningful. The goal may be a recital or a small performance for close friends or a relative. It may also be the desire to learn a program of pieces by a stated time, or the desire to reach a particular level of proficiency. I see performance as act of musical creation and also as a meditative process. Read More

I started teaching when I was about 15 years old, I lead a dance group and choreographed a 50 min show about african heritage in North and South American cultures. It was a big project and it helped me realize how much I loved teaching. From then on I've taught several subjects from dance, to Spanish and voice lessons. During my time at Berklee I was also a Core Music Tutor for Ear Training, Harmony, and Tonal harmony. Read More

My teaching methods vary by students specifications. I first work engaging beginners with piano pieces that gradually go from easiest to more complicated. The most important element is to keep the student focused through the entire class. For early ages I usually use playing, singing, exploring the instrument before reading the book. My philosophy is mainly individualistic. If a student is young, there are many personalities you may encounter- some naturally focused, others not. While I will still aim to deliver essentially the same content, my approach with each child varies based on their attention span and focus. A lack of focus often hints at a creative bent, so I may listen a bit more than with a student naturally prone to taking directions. Read More

Shortly after graduating college, I was hired to be a musical theatre teacher at a local dance studio where I taught dance, voice and acting. After teaching with them, I had students reach out to me to further their vocal training. I have had regular voice students for the last two years, and even after moving to New York this past fall, several of my students from California are still with me by doing lessons over Skype! My teaching experience dates back to even before my college days. I began to teach both in private lessons and institutions to various age groups. I was teaching during my undergrad and grad studies, and now I am a full-time teacher. I do teach both classical and Jazz. I am specialized in Jazz, but I have a very strong classical background (I studied classical piano during my undergrad even though my major was jazz). Read More
