I like to start simple. Learning how to hold the sticks and working with different sticking exercises followed by a simple and fun approach to learning rudiments I have a couple of snare drum method books I like to use. I like to play it out and see which one I think will work for the student. Podemski Snare Drum Method or Haskel Harr method. Once we have progressed to a certain point, I like to introduce some fun learning tools. Read More

With all of my students I am kind, patient, gentle, humorous, encouraging, and positive with my feedback. Students regularly give feedback on the music they are making, as well as any new ways they think I might be helpful to them. I use Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory to help inform me of the students learning style. My goal is to nurture each students musical process. I support whatever pace students choose to employ, and tailor my instruction to their needs and wants. Read More

For all students, our first meeting will be an assessment to figure out where to start! I typically have students begin by playing something they are comfortable with that they enjoy, and we go from there. I am comfortable teaching a variety of methods and like to help the student achieve their individual goals, whatever those may be. I do like to supplement most teaching method books with some kind of scale/etude regimen depending on the level, to round out their practice throughout the week between lessons. Read More

Although this is my first official teaching job, I began teaching back in 2011 during my freshman year of high school. I had the pleasure of conducting and teaching both concert and chamber orchestra. I then became a student assistant my senior year and was able to do one-on-one's with the younger students. I encourage my students to go home and practice their scales. They are the key to the perfect bow hand/movement, structure, and agile finger movement. Read More

I fell in love with teaching when I started college years ago and my students have achieved much success in the art world. I adore my students and I treat their voices with extreme care and provide a very positive and relaxed atmosphere to allow growth but get work done. I am dedicated to nurturing voices and serving art. My students are encouraged to audition for productions, perform in pageants and recitals, participate in master classes with elite artists and competitions, record, and explore many other opportunities that benefit their community. I use traditional and self developed techniques for instruction. I am very flexible with my teaching styles and am very patient with new students. I use method books and audio and visual aids. I teach both reading music with theory and ear training. I require that all students are able to master all major and minor scales, which I have developed a very simple to learn method to achieve this goal with a 100% success rate. Read More

I'm a devoted musician who loves to teach, taking pride in all of the personal relationships I've garnished from my fruitful career! It all began when I started playing drums at a young age in my father's music store here in Virginia. Since then, I've traveled the country gigging, touring, and recording with bands such as, "Blue Meridian", and "Vishuda". The Viper Room, SXSW, and the Norva are a few venues that I've had the pleasure to play. Read More
