I am a clarinetist, student, and educator excited about sharing my knowledge of music and the clarinet with students. I completed my MM degree in the Spring of 2023 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, College of Visual and Performing Arts, studying clarinet performance with Dr. Andy Hudson and Dr. Anthony Taylor. I began teaching students in earnest during my senior year of undergraduate school in 1984-85. Prior to graduate school I was an adjunct trumpet teacher at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. Part of my graduate assistantship was as an instructor and since graduation I have helped a number of students from beginner to intermediate level achieve their goals in both classical and non classical settings. For beginner students, I start with the basics and like to teach from the Hal Leonard fundamentals books, but it also depends on the type of student. Some are more visual learners whereas others might be more auditory inclined. I modify my teaching style to accommodate the student. Understandably, theory can get mundane, but I try to make learning fun and applicable so a lot of what I teach directly involves playing on the keys instead of writing things in books. Read More

I am also a conductor. My minor concentration for my doctorate was Instrumental Conducting, and studied with David E. Becker. I have been a guest conductor with several high school and middle school string orchestras, been a substitute conductor for university/community orchestras, and organized two benefit chamber orchestra concerts in Las Vegas, in 2012 and 2013.
