Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I try to make sure that fundamentals are always maintained and that the music we are covering in lessons is stimulating and challenging while still being enjoyable for the student so that they can develop musical expression along with a strong technical foundation. For the Clarinet, I typically use The Hendrickson Method book series with supplemental books on the side to enhance their various levels.  For flute and saxophone, I will evaluate based on the student's level. Once I have established a method book, I incorporate solos and additional techniques. I also encourage the students to bring music from their band class and/or other solos they may be working on for festivals, competitions, or auditions. Read More

Piano - I find that no one method book is completely standalone, so i incorporate several method books...Piano Adventures, John Thompson's course, Piano Pronto, and some self-composed music for my youngest students!  Intermediate-level pianists start choosing some of their own repertoire as well. Clarinet - For students who do well with method books, I use the Rubank Elementary & Intermediate books, and A New Tune A Day books by Ned Bennett. Read More

I have a strong love of music. I received my Bachelor of Music from East Carolina University and my Master of Music from Anderson University. I have been playing the saxophone for twenty-four years. I have also been a public school general music/band director for five years. I have been teaching saxophone for about twelve years. I am a full-time school teacher and professional musician. I have been teaching clarinet and piano since 2019. For each student, I focus on developing healthy practice habits (physically mentally) that allow them to be efficient and rewarded by their time spent with the instrument. I help students build a strong foundation of fundamentals so they are able to be successful working on more advanced literature. I have found that the witnessing a student's development of a passion for music is a very rewarding experience. For each student to freely expressive their self through their music, it is important that they are allowed to progress at their own pace. I constantly evaluate where a student is at in their growth to ensure that material is challenging, but not frustrating.
