For percussion, I have performed with many star attractions like Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Jr. and Joni Mitchell, to name a few.
I teach children and adults from beginner to intermediate and advance. When teaching college I work with a roster of 45 students per class. I am very open-minded, warm and patient, reliable, flexible and responsible. I am a very passionate to the art of teaching. I am a freelance independent contractor, musician who plays anything from world music, classical percussion, jazz drum set to name a few.
I have been teaching for six years privately and teach a youth orchestra. I have taught students from the ages of 4-adult. My students hold a busy schedule with violin recitals and are also given the opportunity to participate in master classes. In addition, they are involved in their school orchestras and are members of the Titan Youth Symphony of CSUF.
for VOICE Students: I usually associate singing the song with some kind of activity, usually passing a bouncy ball to the beat, or throwing it back and forth. From there, we progress to tapping the beat or the rhythm while singing. Then we’ll combine the two: student claps the rhythm while I tap the beat, and vice versa. I want my students to be able to clearly distinguish these two elements, and to be able to feel and maintain a steady beat which will set them up with a strong foundation for playing more advanced music. I’ve had mixed success with students singing in tune. Some have no problems. With others, I’m working hard with them at recognising and singing high and low notes as well as pitch matching. From there, I teach them to play each song on the piano through imitation. Through spaced repetition and regular review, I expect them to play these pieces from memory. What I’ve observed is that there seems to be a spectrum: some students have a far easier time of memorising the songs and playing them at the piano. Others have become stuck on the same pieces even after a period of a few weeks, so I move on to other songs, games and fall back to the method book to keep their momentum going and so they don’t get sick of trying to do the same songs every week. for PIANO Students: From the first lesson I teach the student to find the C and the F, which are the keys to the left of the group of two and three black keys respectively. I quiz them by asking them to identify the note that I am playing. It takes only a minute. When each one is secure, I add more on, and I do this over the course of several weeks. The G and A, in between the three black keys. Then the D, in between the two black keys. Finally, the E and B, to the right of the group of two and three black keys respectively. I spend a couple of minutes every week quizzing them on their keyboard note identification until this has become a solid foundation for them. For additional practise, I have them colour in worksheets in addition to the quizzing. We also play the keyboard race game which is always a hit with students. A number of my new students in this age category are transfer students who have been learning for some time and are reading music notation in their method books, despite having significant trouble identifying notes on the keyboard quickly. At times, I see students counting up from C to find a G or an A, so will take the time to reinforce the information that G and A is in between the three black keys, and practise finding them quickly. I want these keyboard geography skills well and truly secure in their minds long before starting to associate them with musical notation.
I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1962 and I have been passionate about music, especially drumming since I was a toddler. My mother used to take me along to her aerobics classes and at that time a drummer would play a drum to keep a beat for the class instead of having recorded music playing through the speakers. I was absolutely fascinated by his drum beats and I was always trying to play along with the drummer during the class. It was not until I was 13 years old that I had my first drumset but during all those years until then I collected and constantly played many brazilian percussion instruments, which acctually gave me a very stong foundation in drumming and also in the Brazilian popular rhythms. Very soon after, I started my professional drumming career playing for musical theater productions which led me to many other projects and soon I was showcasing as a drummer in National tours, Radio and TV programs in Brazil. I attended renowned music schools in Brazil to improve my skills in drumming, music theory and musicianship. I started giving private drums instructions when I was 20 years old, few years before I decided to come to California in 1989 to attend the Musicians Institute where I graduated with Honnors mention in the Certificate. Parallel from being an active performer in Los Angeles, California I got involved with the teaching aspect of drumming since 1997 which for me is an extremelly rewarding activity, where I can pass on everything I've learned trhough the years about music, drumming and enriching relationships.

I've been taking lessons from Michael once a week for eight weeks now, and with his help I have made dramatic improvements with my sax. Michael is a funny, nice, patient and all around great instructor. I'd recommend Michael, as an instructor, to anyone who wants to improve their skills and have fun while doing it.

We've only had a few lessons with Elisa, but so far we really like her. She has a lot of great suggestions for solo pieces as well as orchestral music that involves all 3 of my boys, while also including some Christian music that we can play at church. She is very patient in explaining the lessons and encouraging!

My daughter, Valarie is one of the original members of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble under the guidance of Aaron. He patiently worked with Valarie as well as the other five members individually and as a group to produce music that has been shared and enjoyed locally as well as nationally. He has the ability to seek out the strengths of each student while building confidence. Through his teachings, not only had Valarie learned how to produce and enjoy music, but also responsibility and so many life skills for everyday living.

My son and I both take lessons with Micheal. My son started on the ukulele and recently started the guitar. He is excellent with children. Very patient and very intuitive to the child's ability. He is also an excellent teacher for adults. I had not touched my guitar in several years and in a couple months not only to I remember everything I forgot but I'm learning many new techniques and am a much better player than I've ever been.

Our daughter has only been playing the piano since March. Tony replaced our other teacher who had a job transfer and could no longer teach. Tony is fun and encouraging. My daughter is playing Taylor Swift and Christmas songs and is playing the piano more than ever before. Very happy so far with Mr Tony

Being I'm a woman, I was a little apprehensive having a male teacher (he knew this), however, after my trial lesson I realized he knows what he's doing and I had nothing to worry about!! He is very knowledgable on the piano and vocal techniques. He has a big vocal range so he is able to hit the high notes to be able to show me how I need to sing it. He is also phenomenal on the piano. I would highly recommend him for vocal and piano. Also, I don't know how to sight read music and he is teaching how to. I've been taking lessons with him for a month (my trial lesson was on 1/11) and I have already seen a huge improvement. I am an intermediate level singer looking to improve my vocal technique, breathing and improve my confidence in my singing abilities, Alex is definitely helping me do that.

Steve is an excellent instructor. My son has really connected with him and he is learning the guitar quickly. Steve is patient and never rushes through a lesson in order to make it fit within the session time limit. In addition, before he leaves, he writes notes and instructions for my son to follow. By the next lesson, my son is confident in what Steve has taught him. Most importantly, Steve builds my son's confidence in his own own ability and progress after each lesson.

I am in my 60s and decided to get back into playing my guitar. I thought taking lessons would be a good way to formalize the endeavor. I did have some concern about whether working with a teacher would work out as I've behave only played for my own enjoyment for a long time. Peter and I have had a few lessons together and I am truly enjoying the experience. He is very supportive and flexible. We arrived at a three gold approach that is really working for me. We focus on developing a playlist, learning some of the more iconic tunes from leading artist that I would have a hard time learning on my own and developing some technical skills related to style and music theory. Now I look forward to my next lesson and am already playing better and enjoying the journey. Peter is a great teacher I'm lucky to have the opportunity to work with him.

Dave is a fantastic teacher. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to students that I think is invaluable. At the same time, this does not limit him from working with beginning students. He is very communicative with the parents as far as schedule changes. We are so grateful to have found him!!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
