I provide a judgment-free environment and thus give my students confidence. Through this confidence, they will expand their knowledge of mental awareness, body awareness, and vocal awareness. My extensive education will help provide my students with an accurate academic vocal experience; from the knowledge of repertoire to the way the body works. I pride myself on being able to adapt to a variety of learning styles: from visual to kinesthetic. Read More

During my time at Oberlin I took a certification class specifically about string pedagogy. I am very well versed in various methods of technique training for all instruments in the violin family. With beginners I teach in a modified Suzuki method that includes music reading after a few months. In general I focus on technique and then add in the more fun musical gestures. I also teach ear-training long side the violin/viola study. Read More

I am a friendly, calm teacher which is my style. I motivate my students a lot but do it in a positive way. All my students understand that they ultimately decide whether not they will have success or not, no one else. It is my job to guide you and to give you advice, but in the end the student must be the one who does the work. Students who think in this way usually do have the most success. Read More

There are quite a few method books that I like to use with my students. To start, I like to have students use the Beginner Rubank Method Book (the blue book) and work through this to get the basics down. After this, I like to choose some supplemental solo pieces that aren't in this book to help the students grasp the concepts that they have been working on, outside of what is shown in the book. I have taught every semester I have been in college thanks to being a part of the Musicianship and Advancing Pedagogy--MAP--Program in the College of Musical Arts. I taught for the Middle School and High School Band Academy Programs. There, I taught sectional rehearsal for anywhere between 2-14 students for an hour. I was also an assistant at Anthony Wayne's Marching Band, and most previously taught at Van Buren for my methods placement. Read More

Watching my students develop and grow as musicians is one of the greatest joys I have in life. I use positive encouragments while also challenging students to continually improve. Music making is not a race, so I allow students to develop naturally and at their own pace. I try to inspire, encourage, and motivate through leading by example. My favorite aspect of my first teacher was when he would play his instrument along with me. Read More
