As an educator I aim to introduce my students to skills that may be applied to life outside the practice room. I teach them to communicate, build confidence, and most importantly, develop patience. In 2013 I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a master's degree in saxophone performance. Prior to this, in 2011, I graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor's degree in the same field. I am currently studying Music Education with an Instrumental Band Emphasis at BGSU, and am in my final year of coursework. I student teach in the Fall of 2020. I have had the opportunity to perform in many ensembles at BGSU, including University Choral Society, Concert Band, Wind Symphony, and various chamber groups. While I focus on the makings of a good classical trombonist, I also inquire what kinds of music each student likes and incorporate that into the lessons so they have something fun they can relate to while still developing their skills. For the more advanced student I start to introduce excerpts from band and orchestras to teach style that they can bring into the ensembles they play in.
