I always wanted to be an opera singer until I discovered vocal jazz. Now, I write music inspired by jazz theory (sort of) and sing and arrange jazz standards and pop tunes in ways that are the most interesting to me. I earned my Masters in Studio Music and Vocal Jazz Performance from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music in 2017 and am currently writing and arranging songs for my premiere album. I am a performer and composer with my Bachelor's in Music from The Boston Conservatory. I have performed flute and guitar in a variety of musical settings from orchestras, theater pits, rock bands, and jazz ensembles. I love working with students of all ages and skill levels and try to encourage an open attitude towards learning different types of music. Currently I have experience teaching beginner ukulele, electric guitar and flute. Read More

For all of my students, I stress the importance of fundamentals, and I use various etude studies and the works of Marcel Moyse to develop this. To further complement the development of fundamentals and to encourage stylistic choices in musical expression and phrasing, music theory, music history, and ear training skills will be incorporated into lessons. In addition, a portion of each lesson will be spent sight reading duets, which encourages sight reading skills and allows students to become accustomed to a more advanced level of playing. Read More

My teaching method is tailored to the desired goal of the student. I commonly employ classical fundamentals, which provide the student with tools needed to play the instrument. These fundamentals include: long-tones (for tone production), scales (for technique), overtone series (for the low/high range of the instrument) and reading music. From here, each lesson is modified to the particular student's goals, whether that is improvisation, playing jazz, performing classical literature, exploring experimental music, etc. Read More

No single approach works with every student when teaching drums. There are simply too many styles and methods to choose from. But when working with beginners, I tend to focus mostly on developing a good internal sense of rhythm and good listening skills. Then if the student wishes, we may specialize in classical, jazz, rock, latin, or whatever style the student is interested in. There are many excelent published methods to choose from and I occasionally assign etudes and excersizes of my own. Read More

Instruments: Violin
I like to hear from the students what they want to achieve. Whether that be short-term or long-term, I am willing to tailor my lessons in order to accommodate those wants and needs. Setting those goals is helpful for keeping the students engaged and focused on accomplishing those coveted goals. While I value fun learning, there are certainly times when my teaching has to be methodical and meticulous -- I don't think one can learn violin effectively without being tedious. Read More
