While in college I played professionally in the Des Moines Symphony and was the winner of the Young Artist Contest which afforded me the privilege of featured soloist with the Drake Symphony Orchestra. I began teaching in my early college years dating back to 2010. I have since taught students ranging in all ages from 6 to adult. Not only have I had many double bass students, as that is my primary instrument, but I have also taught trombone, beginning violin, and music theory as well. I highly encourage my students to practice regularly, as consistency is the key to developing any new skill. During college, a woman and her son saw a Jazz combo show I played drum set in and after the set, She asked me if I would teach her son. I agreed. I taught her son for a year. Sadly, they moved away but the word spread and the next year I had two more students. It contuied that way as I progressed in college my teaching improved.
