If a student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I work with the basic blues and scales to build a repetoire. For Adults, I like to work with jazz standards as well as H.L. I began teaching piano 4 years ago, I had not originally intended on teaching, but I had several people inquire about lessons, since they had seen me perform. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. I like to divide my lessons into three different parts the first part would be a warm up in wish we get ready all the necessary muscles involved in playing the instrument with exercises that would develop dexterity and coordination simultaneously, the second part of how to listen is based on learning a basic piece of music that is guaranteed to develop the basic skills to perform something that they are interested on, on the cliff part of the lesson is to choose a song that the student wants to learn and analyze it apply what we learned by playing the basic peace and the warm ups.
