With children, I like to start with method books such as Essential Elements or the John Thompson series for piano. For more advanced pupils, I will start with what they are currently working on, find areas for improvement, and then adjust the curriculum accordingly. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For advanced beginners to intermediate-level students, I try to find out what interests the student may have, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun—no matter their ability level.
