My teaching style allows students to make music from the beginning, helping to motivate them with attractive songs, which can be used as technique building exercises. I encourage my students to practice and set goals at each lesson. They would be able to work at their own pace. Playing duets with the teacher is also a fun activity, and listening to good players recordings will inspire them. With young beginner string students, I typically will start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. After a few weeks of that, the student will have grasped the fundamentals. and then I will introduce the Suzuki method, supplementing with the O'Connor Method. For piano I generally will start with the Suzuki method and supplement with any songs the student is interested in learning. For Adults I try to find out what style of music the student is interested in, and how much experience they have and structure my lessons accordingly to keep the student engaged and ensure they are having fun!
