I am somewhat lenient with my teaching style. I always give every student work to practice and improve upon for their next lesson. However, I am a firm believer that keeping a student's interest in music is best accomplished by allowing them to move at their own pace. I always want my students to be inspired and productive, and I also believe that a student should never feel forced into practicing their craft. Read More

I'm a passionate and energetic instructor who loves working with students of all ages and sharing my love of music. In 1994, I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. Performing as lead singer in a very fun dance/funk band with a horn section has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I've been fortunate to play almost every large venue in our great city as well as open up for famous acts such as Howard Jones at the Gothic Theater. Read More

I'm a professional and motivated instructor who just graduated from UT Austin and would love to share music with whoever wants to learn. It has been 16 years for playing cello and orchestra whether in school and outside of school, and also for teaching experience. I have been working with several Maestros, including Bion Tsang, Rapheal Bell, Peter Seidenberg, Peter Opie, and Jonathan Spitz, and I had an opportunity to perform in the Taiwan National Concert Hall with Haik Kazazyan, who was the third-place of International Tchaikovsky Violin Competition. When teaching intermediate students, I like to start them on right hand chord exercises and demonstrate how diminished sevenths and sixths can interplay with the bass left hand. An understanding of the right hand chord structures adds flavor to the left hand bass. It's amazing when the student plays songs that were one finger exercises and advances to the more complex chord structures. I find that most intermediate students never really learn how their classical songs are structured for the bass until they play right hand chords, especially full octave. Read More

For beginning students I use essential elements and elementary cornet methods. As students progress to more intermediate level I begin introducing the Arbans, Clarke, and method books from Stamp and Schlossberg. These methods are a great gateway into advanced playing and contain methods for intermediate to advanced players. As students become more advanced I introduce more difficult method books and challenging solo and etude books such as Sachse, Charlier, Glantz and St.Jacome. Read More

As such, I like to have students play around with making sound on empty bottles, and with tools such as the Pneumo-pro. As a big believer in scales as the building blocks of good technique and music itself, I provide basic exercises as early on as possible. For intermediate and advanced students, I like to use the first lesson as an opportunity to hear a piece or two that they've played before, then work on some of the things they've already learned so I can determine what sorts of ideas they respond to and what they can work on improving. Instruments: Trumpet
I use elements of the master brass teachers' methods. The teachings of Arban, Clarke, Colin, Arnold Jacobs, and Carmine Caruso are my influences, and I use their ideas and exercises in lessons.I emphasize the fundamentals of trumpet playing: tone production, articulation, flexability, and finger dexterity. It is important for students to play by ear as well as read written notation. Read More
