I am a passionate instructor who loves working with students of all ages. In 2016, I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and was also awarded a Trombone Performance Certificate. I have been fortunate to be able to study abroad in Ireland and perform with multiple bands and orchestras at Maynooth University and around the Kildare County area. I am currently working towards starting my graduate studies in Trombone Performance to further my performance and teaching skills. I am a new resident to Colorado from South Carolina and I am very excited to share my love of music with the residents of Colorado.
I have been teaching music since I was in high school. I gave lessons to middle school students and to any band students on low brass instruments who were struggling. I even took Teacher Cadets as a senior in high school and did a month long internship with a middle school band director where I learned for the first time how to direct a band. In college, I studied Music Education and applied that to multiple jobs while in college and post college. I worked on brass staff with 3 different marching bands over 5 years and I have been hired by multiple band programs to work with individual students and smaller groups on multiple instruments including: trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, and trumpet. As a private music teacher, I have taught students in both middle and high school, but I do welcome students of any age!
For beginning students, I start with the fundamental book that they use at school in their band class. If the student is not in a class yet, I would recommend starting with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I also have a collection of fundamentals and warm ups that I have saved from my middle school, high school, and college years that I will use with students depending on ability level. For students of all ages and ability levels, I have found it to be helpful to know what kind of music they are interested in and incorporate that into my lessons. My goal is to keep students engaged and to nurture and grow a passion for music!
I love nothing more than being able to help my students develop and grow a passion for music! It is also important that each student progresses at their own pace. The great thing about one on one teaching is each of my students get individual time with me versus being in a band class with lots of other students. Private lessons allow me to pace each lesson based on each individual student and tailor each lesson based on what type of music a student might be interested in learning. I make sure to set realistic goals for my students for each lesson and am eager to acknowledging accomplishments to encourage students to keep their passion alive.
