I'm a professional musician with a passion for performing and sharing my musical knowledge with others.  Coming from a musical family, I have been exposed to a wide range of styles all my life.  I earned my Bachelors Degree from University of the Arts in Philadelphia in Instrumental Performance: Jazz Studies.  It gave me the opportunity to meet and play with some great musicians, and make good friends in the process.  I teach at my home studio or online via skype.  My studio is equipped with amps, stands, cables and a computer set up for listening to tunes.  All you need is your guitar or bass.

For beginner students I use the Hal Leonard method to teach reading and positioning. Chords I teach at the pace the student is learning to play them cleanly (and this varies tremendously), starting with the easier open chords and moving on to progressively more difficult voicings. There are certainly some good beginner pieces in the hal leonard books and sometimes I pull recital material out of the William Leavit book. It's also important, with all students, to make sure we can work in some music that they want to learn, whether it be Beatles, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Chili Peppers, Charlie Parker, etc. I  think that's the best way to motivate a student, give them something they REALLY want to get under their fingers.  I want to add that one of my strongest assets as a teacher is my very comprehensive knowledge of jazz language/theory and the role of the guitar player in jazz music. It is something that the VAST majority of guitar teachers do not possess (but often claim to.) I would be a HUGE benefit to any high school student preparing for college auditions because I have been there myself and know exactly what to expect. I have worked very hard to become a great improvisor and am eager to pass on the knowledge to younger players.

With beginner students I start with establishing a solid buzz and tone while using proper air. I like using the "Standard of Excellence" or "Accent on Achievement" method books as a teaching tool. Once the students have established a foundation, I incorporate appropriate solo repertoire along with continued work in foundational concepts. The arbans method book is also an essential part to my teaching. My main goal as a trumpet teacher is to prepare the student for success in playing, having proper technique, and most importantly, that the student has fun.

For beginner flute and sax students, I like to work out of the Standard of Excellence Books, and for beginner piano I like to use Bastien Series books. I have used these books in my development and am very comfortable and confident with their ability to help studnets progress. Once my students reach a level where they have a pretty solid understanding of music, I start to give them more freedom into choosing what they want to do. At this point I will start working with etude and technical exercise books like Rubank, Hanon, Czerny, and/or Ferling.

Teaching started in my college years, taking up opportunities to teach family and friends for fun. Ironically, my first student happened to be my dad. The experience was so uplifting to him that he began to seek oppotunitites to perform occasionally at his church! That moment was a huge factor in wanting to pursue private instruction. It's worth teaching because you can inspire any and everybody to learn and play music. This has made my time teaching an absolute joy. It's never too late or early to learn!
