I have over 6 years teaching experience.  I specialize in finding students' authentic voices and teaching them how to access the emotions of their songs and become more polished performers.

I have been teaching for several years beginning as a peer tutor during my time at The University of the Arts. I tutored voice and piano, music theory, musicianship and music history. I also have experience teaching private voice and piano lessons at two different schools and out of my home. I specialize in classical technique in both voice and piano and have expertise in crossing over between classical, jazz, popular and musical theater styles. I always make sure my students are enjoying themselves while consistently getting the foundation they need to be successful singers and pianists. I encourage my students to perform, go to auditions and have fun while they are making music!

I would first establish the level of my student and figure out which direction suits them best to achieve there own personal goals. Someone first starting off , We would first concentrate on finger strength. Excercises that are fun but also help build the neccasary tools. Basic chords , scales , and basic strumming is a good example of where i would start a guitar student. Beginners of voice lessons we would be concentrating on breathing excercises and scales at first. Fun singalongs always sets the tone also for great progress!!

Nothing is more rewarding than experiencing a student develop a style and passion for guitar! I would say that my style of teaching leaves a lot of room for growth, but doesn't neglect the fundamentals. I'm also going to encourage you, push you, let you grow on your own, open your ears to new sounds and ways of thinking, be disappointed in you (for not practicing!), be proud of you (always, of course), and many other fun things.

I should start off by saying each student is unique, and since the lessons are one on one, my approach to each student will be unique. That being said, there are certain skill-sets and areas of focus that every student should learn. For complete beginners, I start off with technique. What is good posture? What is good hand position? How do you form a proper embouchure and produce a supported airstream? From there we learn simple songs -- sometimes by ear, and sometimes by reading music (both are valuable skills to have). From there we learn how those songs we learned are built. This is the theory part. Once a student has a rudimental understanding of theory they can begin to compose their own songs! When this is done spontaneously people refer to it as improvisation, but don't let the names fool you. Composition and Improvisation are closely related. Each step along the way has its own relation to the musical fundamentals of melody, harmony, and rhythm. As opposed to a teaching style that just emphasizes getting students to play the right notes at the right time, my goal is to go beyond just the technique and get my students to truly understand and appreciate music.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
