When students are being lazy I call them out on it by saying something like, "What is that?" It shakes them up and makes them realize I catch every mistake. It's done in a lighthearted way so that the students feel comfortable with me as I do not want to drive away students who fear their teacher. Comfort and discipline are imperative to help them achieve their goals. If a student feels comfortable with their instrument they are more willing to practice and achieve a higher goal of performance. Read More

My many years of experience shows that educational process should be fun! Every student should feel interested and excited! How do we do this? As a teacher I choose a repertoire for my students but I also let them choose one or two pieces they like. I would play few pieces for my students to see if they like it. 1- I am interested in the program because I have dedicated all my life to the social action through music, because I very much value the transformative power of music for the development and strengthening of the community. I have always organized activities such as festivals, workshops and performances to bring the message of music to any sector of the society. I have been trained in EL Sistema in Venezuela, which as given me the opportunity to be in direct contact with thousands of children and youth coming from underserved communities, who though music have seen their inclusion in the society with pride, bravery, hope and strife. It is extremely important to me that every student benefits from his or her own personally tailored lesson. This means that there is no "cut and paste" lesson plan to use with each student. Once I get to know the student, I will be able to judge their level of playing ability, their ability to read music, how good their posture is, how good their hand position is, etc. It is also important to me to get to know the student's personality, so that when teaching, I can help make the student feel as comfortable as possible during the lesson. I believe each student is different. Therefor, lessons should differ depending on each students particular needs, taste in music, and age. I would never treat an adult student like I would a young student and vice versa. I always try to set weekly goals with each of my students in order for them to have something to work towards on a consistent basis. If my students don't reach their weekly goal I simply have a little bit of a review with them in the beginning of the lesson and then proceed with that weeks work. Read More

I began offering private string lessons in College during summers in Florida. I taught private string lessons. Further into my education I took internships in music therapy working with many different populations. I gave therapeutic music lessons to patients in hospitals like Massachusetts General Hospital, Worcester Recovery Center and McLean Hospital. There I ventured into teaching guitar and voice. At Berklee College of Music, I worked with young children during our city's Beantown Jazz fest to help introduce them to new instruments. Read More
