My methods include a wide variety of resources. For beginning students I like both the Hal Leonard and John Thompson approaches. Along with the lesson books, i also encourage technical studies including scales, arpeggios and other studies to build up finger strength, dexterity and independence, As the student progresses, I introduce memory work, choring and basic improvisation. For the more advanced student I let them work on repertoire of their choosing, stressing a variety of genres and styles. Read More

I began playing violin in fifth grade at age 10 and loved it immediately! I continued to play through college, then began my career as a college English professor while raising my family. While teaching at City University of New York (CCNY) I played with the BMCC Downtown Symphony. My teaching style is supportive and progressive. Keeping things fresh, new, and exciting is always a factor in all of my lessons, no matter the student or the instrument. Furthermore, my teaching philosophy is that positivity and encouragement leads to progress at all levels. I try to push my students to achieve their full potential without making them feel forced to do so. This way, my students learn more about themselves through music instead of feeling stagnant and unmotivated because of music. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. Instruments: Voice
I teach healthy vocal technique in any genre at every level. If you can produce sound, I can teach you how to sing. In addition to singing seriously for 15+ years and taking private voice lessons since the age of 12, in 2018 I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance, and in 2016 I graduated from Rollins College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Vocal Performance emphasis.
