I think real-world application is the most important part of any educational curriculum. No matter the subject or the age/experience of the student, I begin with the traditional structures taught by universities and personalize the curriculum based on my students' learning/application goals--i.e. to teach, perform, or compose professionally/as a hobby in different formats/genres. In group teaching situations, I ensure a wide variety of approaches to each subject and encourage students to choose the approach that works the best for them. Read More

I grew up in a home filled with music and was exposed to a variety of musical genres and styles as I listened to numerous rehearsals between instrumentalists and singers in our home. I began piano lessons at 5 and never stopped. I hold many certificates from The Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music, studied Piano Performance at Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts as well as Western European Music History at the University of South Florida. I believe a student needs to have a good strong Foundation starting at something is Middle C and breaking themselves of that by branching out with both hands and playing on opposite sides just to show the full capabilities of the pianoforte and they're great and full potential compositional characteristics. I prefer low stress, casual, and sometimes jovial - but engaging - lessons. All students are different, and players progress through their musical journey at different paces. So while I want to be a steady guide that motivates them, I also engage and interact with students in ways that fit them best. My teaching style centers around learning the student. I focus on the big picture. What can we do now that will make the most significant impact on the player's trajectory? Read More

It feels like I embark on a musical adventure with each of my students! I love to see children's eyes lighting up when they understand a concept, or when they achieve mastery on a lesson! So, too, with adult students! As each student travels down his or her path of musical understanding, I am convinced that being able to share in their learning experience is a great gift. Read More

As a strong advocate of new music, I have actively participated in numerous student composer concerts that have presented new and viable works from USF's esteemed composition program. I have also participated in the Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival (2012 and 2013) and the annual Tennessee Cello Workshop (2009). I was the principal cellist of the 2009 National Philharmonic Summer String Institute under the direction of maestro Piotr Gajewski and I was recently the Assistant Principal of the University of South Florida Symphony Orchestra. Lately I've been teaching my little brother piano playing on the side when I go over to my parent's house, he is really enthusiastic about playing for me and asks many questions while aptly listening to me. I also help out a couple of my friends that either used to play the piano or are just interested in the instrument and need a primer to get them going. I really enjoy when I can make others passionate about something I love by my example and that is why teaching is so wonderful. Read More
